Weekly Study #4: White Flower

I’ve been wanting to try painting a white flower for a while. This week, I learned how to suggest white without using any white paint—just a touch of Payne’s gray, yellow ochre, and burnt sienna mixed with plenty of water. The soft washes create subtle shadows, letting the white of the paper do much of the work.

This study came together quickly—and it shows in a few places! I might give this one another try after watching a tutorial… or two. For now, it was a good chance to experiment and learn something new.
